Dual paddle fans keep the air circulating in this overhead space. A stone fireplace with a raised hearth and a mantel fashioned from a reclaimed timber add warmth and atmosphere.

The state-of-the-art kitchen features attractive green cabinets offset by rainforest brown-and-tan marble countertops. A built-in Liebherr refrigerator-freezer is artfully concealed in the cabinetry. A gas Kitchen Aid range operates on the same propane system that heats the home, with a 1000-gallon tank buried from view outside. The dining area is only a few steps from the kitchen and is spacious enough to accommodate large gatherings of family and friends.

A “found” space under the open plank staircase that leads to the second and third levels is currently in use as a bar, but could serve any number of other purposes.

The master suite is conveniently located on the first floor. A Heat and Glo see-through gas fireplace with three glass sides lends a romantic touch and takes the chill off cooler nights. The en suite master bath features a Bubble Massage air bathtub, with gentler action than the pulsating jets of a traditional whirlpool tub, and an eye-catching Travertine marble sink bowl.

Also on the main floor are a second bathroom, with a Travertine tile shower and sink bowl, and a laundry room with attractive cabinetry, a sink and a granite countertop, and a Maytag washer and dryer.

Loft bedrooms occupy the second and third levels of the home. The second floor loft has extra large closets and also offers alternate possibilities as an office, den or craft area. The sleeping loft on the third level is accessible by ladder, and serves as a “kids space” that children love.

Several doors on the main level open onto the wraparound porch and a large pergola, with shady areas for sitting and enjoying the mountains to the South and East, and the abundant local wildlife. Deer, wild turkeys, black bears, bald eagles, hawks and owls have all been seen on the property.

The lodge is heated by Central Propane heat served by a 1400 gallon propane tank. There is also a whole house tankless hot water heater and a whole house generator provides backup in case of power failure.

A wide brick walkway leads from the lodge to a 24×24 two-bay garage, where an attached pergola and concrete patio afford another space for outdoor entertaining. Inside the garage any resident mechanic, carpenter or tinkerer will be pleased with the built-in 24-foot workbench, and a handy storage loft overhead.

Just below the lodge, a certified Greenbrier County Emergency Helipad provides a clearly marked hard surface near the house where a helicopter can safely land away from obstacles.

A short 5-minute drive from the main lodge are two log guest cabins connected by a central covered porch. Essentially mirror images of each other, these 500-square-foot cabins have all the basics: kitchens, bathrooms with showers, sitting areas and sleeping lofts. The guest quarters are compact but tastefully designed and appointed, with wormy maple floors and Travertine tile showers and basins. They are served by their own well water, and have tankless hot water heaters, sinks with garbage disposals, propane heat, and their own backup generator.

The surrounding acreage is primarily wooded, with red and white oak constituting a large percentage of the forest. Seasonal streams run through the woods, and there are two waterfalls.

Separate from the rest of the property are 27 acres located near the entrance gate. A small stream winds through the lower area, and a small portion has been cleared to create room for a parking area or garage at the base of the mountain. This tract also includes an elevated homesite on the ridge providing long-range views down the valley.

Only minutes away are the world famous Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs, and the picturesque town of Lewisburg, with shopping, fine dining, street festivals, theaters and a lively arts scene, winner of Frommer Budget Travel Magazine’s “Coolest Small Town in America” contest in 2011.  The scenic 75-mile long Greenbrier River Trail is 15 nearby and offers less strenuous hiking and biking opportunities. Snowshoe Mountain, the largest ski resort in the Mid-Atlantic, is a 2-hour drive to the north.
